Creative Arts

Pretty Beach Public School offers a comprehensive creative and performing arts program. Successful music programs include a talented choir, participation in Central Coast Eisteddfods, local musical festivals and choral performances in the community.

There is also a very successful biannual musical spectacular and art show, organised with the help of our dedicated staff and parents. Optional tuition in guitar is available. We have many talented local artists who visit the school and offer their expertise and opportunities for workshops and art groups.

'Oh Deer!' Musical

Once again another outstanding performance by our students of our latest musical extravaganza written by Narelle Jones.

The musical is mainly based on Indonesian folktales about Kancil a mouse deer. While he is actually a small timid animal in these stories he manages to outwit animals much larger and more dangerous than himself. In the final scene Year 5/6 enact a traditional Javanese folktale. A more detailed description of each classes scenes follow separately.

Kancil and the ciccak-cicak (geckos) performed by K/1

Kancil comes across a house in a village complete with domestic animals and a large number of cicak.

Following an argument Kancil races the cicak to determine who is faster. He thinks he is racing only one but is tricked by the cicak and is really racing several.

Kancil and the Tiger performed by Year 1

Kancil wanders through the jungle where he meets a hungry tiger.

Having to think quickly to avoid being eaten he invents stories to escape from the gullible Tiger. These stories involve wasps, monkeys, birds and snakes.

Kancil and the Crocodiles performed by Year 2

When Kancil comes to the river he wants cross he finds it is infested with crocodiles.

Kancil uses a ‘job for the King’ story to trick the crocodiles into letting him cross the river to enable him to get to the lush vegetation on the other side.

Kancil and the Buffalo performed by Year 3

This is a story where Kancil outwits a crocodile to save the life of a buffalo.

The students of a class are rehearsing a concert they are going to perform for the sultan and performing a play telling this story.

Kancil and the Farmer performed by Year 4/5

In this scene Kancil is caught foraging in a farmers garden.

He had travelled on a ferry with a group of tourists and farmers to get to the farm. Once again he outsmarts both the farmer and the dog and escapes on the ferry.

The Golden Snail performed by Year 5/6

This story is about a Javanese Princess who is cursed by a witch and turned into a golden snail.

With the help of an old fisherwoman, the prince and princess are reunited and the villagers celebrate with them.

Student Art Show

Our school held another dazzling Art Show. The library was transformed into an art gallery with fantastic pieces of art work by all of our students displayed.

This was thanks to all parents who helped with the art groups and the teachers for the time and effort they put into making this such a successful event.
